From the President's Desk

Greetings from the President’s Desk. This has been a very busy quarter for CEPA and I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of our recent activities, and to bring your attention to some upcoming events.

We hosted CEPA’s 6th Annual Online Conference on Saturday, February 10th 2024. We had a full day of great presentations on varied topics. Presentations from the invited speakers will soon be for sale to CEPA members for asynchronous viewing (eLearning webpage).

We also had several outstanding scientific e-abstracts from students and professionals representing work from across the United States and as far away as Turkey; helping to showcase the great work going on in the field. The abstracts were published in the Journal of Clinical Exercise Physiology (read the abstracts). You may view the abstract presentations on the CEPA website (view abstract presentations). Congratulations to Brittany Smith from Kent State who was the recipient of the 2024 CEPA Early Investigator Award for her abstract “Patient-Specific Adaptive Dynamic Cycling is Associated with Improved PD Symptoms.” Kudos Brittany!

During the meeting, we announced the first class of CEPA Fellows (see recipients in this e-News). CEPA Fellowship recognizes outstanding service to the field of clinical exercise physiology and past service to CEPA. BIG thank you to Brian Coyne for chairing the Fellowship committee. A lot of long hours and hard work was done to make this happen. It is such a great step for our organization!

The CEPA Annual Conference Committee implemented a new recognition by establishing the "Randi Lite Lifetime Achievement Award." This award is named in honor of the first recipient who was a founder and the first president of CEPA. She has been a champion and relentless advocate for clinical exercise physiologists; providing strong leadership with grace and poise. This award recipient in the future will be an individual who has significantly impacted the field of clinical exercise physiology, and has the inspiring attributes that Randi has brought to the profession and CEPA. Congratulations Randi – well deserved!

Upon reading about these recognitions and awards, you may be wondering how you can be considered for them. Here is your chance to get involved! Consider nominating yourself for the CEPA Executive Committee. See announcement within this e-News. If you are interested, throw your hat into the ring! If you feel that you aren’t ready for the executive committee, we are always looking for volunteers for our committees and sub-committees. If this work interests you, consider volunteering by submitting the volunteer form.

Lastly, we are inviting nominations for the next Editor-In-Chief for the Journal of Clinical Exercise Physiology. If you are interested or know someone who is, we would love to hear from you. See announcement in this e-News. You would be a part of an excellent team and could help grow our readership.

Amazing work is being done by our leaders and I look forward to seeing what the future holds in the last quarter of my presidency.

Cheers,
