Arm Strength Testing

Hi Chrissy

Here's a paper that has 1RM testing that includes the arm curl along with a detailed script on how to perform the assessments. I think it is worth reviewing if you're considering a 1RM assessment. The Effect of Single Set Resistance Training on Strength and Functional Fitness in Pulmonary Rehabilitation Patients

Phillips, Wayne T. PhD, FACSM; Benton, Melissa J. MSN, PhD, RN, CNS; Wagner, Carolyn L. BSN, RN; Riley, Cathy BSN, MBA, RN. Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation 26(5):p 330-337, September 2006.

The Senior Seated Arm Curl test would be the most appropriate for Pulmonary Rehab. The full protocol can be found in the Senior Fitness Test Manual 2nd edition by Rikle & Jones. ACSM does not have it listed in the Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Perscription.

Easiest one is the 30 second bicep curl test. Depending on equipment and training experience/learning curve, you can do anywhere from 5-10RM to get estimated 1RM.

Hello,

Thinking of implementing Arm Strength Test for pulmonary Rehab. Does anyone have any resources pertaining to this? I keep thinking of a submax of the 1-RM.

Please if anyone has any advice or point me in a direction of where to find more information.

Thank you
